Under the general supervision of the Associate Dean of Nursing, the Nursing Lab Instructional Assistant provides instruction and supervision to students within the Associate Degree Program’s Nursing Skills Open Lab. The skills open lab hours provides an opportunity for students to practice and reinforce newly learned skills under the direction of a Master’s prepared nurse.  This is a grant funded position for 27 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters.


  1. Maintain and open and safe instructional lab for student use
  2. Provide student instruction during open lab hours
  3. Provide information on resources available to students
  4. Assist nursing faculty with instruction during skills lab
  5. Perform assessment and evaluation of student skills performance during open lab times.
  6. Record and maintina Open Lab utilization data for grant support.
  7. Remain current with skills in the Associate Degree Nursing program needed by BTC Nursing students.
  8. Work cooperatively with College staff in the selection and order of course and lab materials.
  9. Assist in the enforcement of college regulations and report student conduct viloations to administration.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  1. Ability to interpret and use a variety of technical instruments and equipment.
  2. Ability to provide student assessment, instruction and evaluation.
  3. Strong Computer Skills.
  4. Demonstrate experience working with culturally diverse populations.
  5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  6. Knowledge of the ADN curriculum


Education & Experience:

  1. Master’s Degree in Nursing
  2. Two years (4,000 hours) of nursing experience, of which at least one year (2,000 hours) shall be within the five years prior to date of appointment. One year (2,000 hours of the nursing experience may be waived if the occupational instructor has at least two years of post-secondary teaching experience in the field of nursing within five years prior to the date of appointment.
  3. Current or eligible for Wisconsin license to practice as an R.N. Must be licensed to practice as an R.N. in Wisconsin by the employment start date.
  4. Remain current with the American Heart Association Health Care Provider CPR certification.
