Blackhawk Community College seeks an innovative adjunct Nutrition Instructor committed to technical college students and their success.  Reporting to the Dean – Health and Public Safety, the part-time Nutrition Instructor will be culturally competent with commitment and expertise in working with diverse populations, utilize appropriate technology, and demonstrate strong promise as a contributing member of the Health and Public Safety Division.  We value opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration, find ways to utilize cooperative learning, and are utilizing various technologies in the classroom and for distance delivery of instruction.  All faculty are engaged in the assessment of college goals and purposes.


  1. The primary responsibility of this position is to teach courses in Nutrition, with a major emphasis on Human Nutrition, a course as part of the Laboratory Food Science Technician Associate Degree.
  2. Additional responsibilities include a commitment to systematic classroom/department/college assessment and improvement, preparation of class materials, course and curriculum planning, and availability for student consultation outside of class
  3. Other responsibilities include maintenance of high expectations for students, ordering textbooks and audiovisual materials, assessment and evaluation of individual student progress, maintenance of student records, referring students to other appropriate college staff as necessary, and demonstration of student-centered values consistent with the community college philosophy



  1. Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Nutrition, Food Science, Family and Consumer Science, Public Health or closely related field with coursework Nutrition and/or Biochemistry OR Bachelor's degree in one of these disciplines and a Masters degree in a related science field (Biology, Biochemistry)
  2. Demonstrated successful teaching experience.


      1. Experience teaching Nutrition Courses
      2. Professional Experience and Current Credentials as a Registered Dietitian (RD)
      3. Experience and/or evidence of willingness to work in a participatory collegiate community college population (e.g. committees, college activities)
      4. Experience using a variety of classroom methodologies (e.g. assessment, collaborative learning classroom technologies, interactive teaching)
      5. Experience developing Nutrition curriculum and other related curricula
      6. Professional Experience in the following areas as pertains to the teaching assignment(s):  Nutrition/Nutrition Education, Family and Consumer Sciences
      7. Commitment to the technical college philosophy and life-long learning
      8. Evidence of sensitivity to understanding the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
