The ERP Business Analyst provides technical support for BTC’s integrated administrative management information system (Banner) and companion products, who is adept at matching business requirements to ERP system functionality addressing gaps through process and/or software changes.  Through continuous communication with all levels of the organization, the System Analyst documents and analyzes processes by working with departments to identify required business process changes or to devise technical solutions that support the need.  The System Analyst understands business processes and leverages technology to optimize them.

Additional products include other campus software and web applications that interact with ERP system (i.e. Document imaging, Portal, payment gateway, etc).


This position operates in a team environment to support information technology solutions that improve business efficiency and productivity for the College. This position works closely with departmental staff to examine existing business models and flows of data, discuss findings, and design an appropriate improved IT solution. 


The major areas of the Business Analyst position include:


  1. Develop an understanding of the business processes and how the system can enable those processes. 
  2. Act as a champion in identifying, developing and implementing best practices across multiple channels within the organization. 
  3. Assess business capability gaps, identify scope, and elicit business requirements to define a capability tying the needs of cross functional users and stakeholders, to the process or system to be built that satisfies the need.
  4. Document new functional requirements and continuous improvements to existing processes leveraging native business system functionality as much as possible. 
  5. Interface with both the business and the appropriate reporting and analytics groups, including I.T. Business Intelligence and website teams to identify requirements for reporting and analytics associated with our business systems software.
  6. Guide the business in the creation of a test plan for new development.  Perform validation tests of desired functionality and provide testing support of all business system software.  This would include testing specific customizations, testing of new releases of software, and general testing
  7. Support the day-to-day activities of the business by troubleshooting business system issues escalated beyond the departmental subject matter experts.
  8. Create or assist writing process documentation and standard work documents.  Update standard work to reflect new and improved process changes implemented in large scale deployments.
  9. Demonstrate ability to set and change priorities amongst multiple competing constituencies, projects, and resources
  10. Provide back-up to the Administrative Systems Manager for ERP software and system issues requiring “on-call” and emergency response issues.

  6. Experience in team facilitation, use of quality tools, systems thinking, and process improvement.
  7. A commitment to promoting recognition, understanding, and respect for diversity in staff and client relations.
  8. Ability to develop queries against a multitude of databases, including but not limited to MS SQL, Oracle SQL, and MS Access.
  9. Demonstrated ability of web development using HTML, CSS, Java, JavaScript, PHP, Eclipse and Perl.



Education & Experience:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in computer science, MIS, or a related field. Candidates with an Associate Degree plus extensive additional related specialized training and occupational experience will be considered.
  2. Four (4) years’ experience facilitating business process improvement, and implementing software packages, or management information systems implementation or a combination of these. Must include a minimum of:
    • Two (2) years’ experience working with and implementing administrative information software, including integration with independent applications.
    • Two (2) year experience facilitating teams using quality improvement methods and tools.
  3. Demonstrated high levels of proficiency with MS Office Suite and Business Intelligence software packages. Including the ability to develop queries and reports, export and import files, sorting, pivot tables, and subtotaling functions.
