  • Overview

    Provide individual and group counseling and education programming to students to promote mental and emotional health. Assist in retaining current students by addressing career, academic and psychosocial factors such as addictions, substance abuse; family, parenting and marital problems; stress management and self-esteem. Collaborate with internal and external resources as appropriate.


    This is a limited term grant funded position through June 30, 2019.


    1. Provide mental health counseling services to assess, identify, and meet student’s needs.
    2. Build relationships with students to contribute to student success.
    3. Manage student counseling needs through providing individual or group treatment, conducting risk assessment and risk management, collaborating with Access and Accommodation Services and responding to student success referrals.
    4. Evaluate the effectiveness of counseling programs on students’ progress in resolving identified problems and moving toward defined objectives.
    5. Advocate for student to access required services or resolve emergency problems in crisis situations.
    6. Collaborate with BTC’s Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT), faculty/staff and/or student services to identify students in need of services and connect them to appropriate resources.
    7. Provide consultation to faculty and staff relating to student concerns.
    8. Conduct educational, outreach, and/or training programming for the campus community. Plan and implement campus wide awareness events throughout the year.
    9. Develop and maintain relationships with community agencies, and provide referral services to outside community agencies as necessary (i.e., financial literacy, Community Action, etc.).
    10. Manage the emergency assistance funding programs on campus.
    11. Collaborate with Marketing & Communications to promote services to college community.
    12. Maintain professional student records in accordance with ethical and legal standards and College policy.
    13. Maintain grant reporting information.
    14. Travel to other campus locations as necessary.
    15. Identify new developments and best practices in counseling by reading professional literature, attending courses and seminars or establishing and maintaining contact with other community agencies.
    16. Maintain Licensed Professional Counselor licensure by abiding by ACA ethical standards and meeting continuing education requirements.


    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    1. Working experience working with the needs of diverse populations.
    2. Knowledge of student-development and counseling theory.
    3. Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
    4. Maintain Confidentiality with knowledge of Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).


    Education & Experience:

    1. Master’s Degree in Counseling and or Guidance or related field.
    2. Two years occupational experience in field, preferably in a higher education/academic setting.
    3. Licensed in State of Wisconsin as a Licensed Professional Counselor
    4. Experience in community/mental health preferred.
