  • Overview

    Coordinates all credit and non-credit courses in Law Enforcement Program areas including Law Enforcement Academy, Basic Jail Academy, Secure Juvenile Detention Academy. Responsibilities include supervision of staff, development of curriculum, budget oversight, program assessment, report and documentation management, and serving as a community liaison.


    Instruct and Administer the Law Enforcement Related Programs

      1. Develop and monitor the relevance of curriculum with Law Enforcement Academy, and ensure compliance with Department of Justice requirements within the academies.
      2. Develop new courses and assist in curriculum development as needed for Law Enforcement Professional Development.
      3. Schedule courses and instructional staff.
      4. Coordinate the monitoring and evaluation of academies
      5. Develop and maintain working relationships with local Law Enforcement Agencies and business/industry, including the coordination of program advisory committees.
      6. Develop and administer contract training within Law Enforcement
      7. Assist in the marketing and recruitment activities to increase enrollment within programs.
      8. Oversee maintenance and care of program related equipment.

    Develop and administer program budgets.

      1. Identify needs; prepare budget proposals and obtain approval.
      2. Manage and coordinate purchasing function.
      3. Monitor expenditures and ensure compliance to approved budgets.
      4. Reconcile and balance accounts.
      5. Monitor part-time instructor compliance to hours based on Affordable Care Act requirements.

    Assist in program related student issues.


      1. Advise and assist students with concerns and problem resolution.
      2. Facilitate scheduling, registration and advance standing for individual students.

    Work with other departments/divisions/institutions to ensure a cooperative effort in the achievement of District objectives.


      1. Develop and implement program goals and objectives.
      2. Serving on District teams and committees in a cooperative effort to achieve District goals.
      3. Promoting flexible programming through the use of alternative delivery systems.

    Supervise faculty and staff.

      1. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the unit.
      2. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s polices and applicable laws.
      3. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and staff training and development; planning, assigning, and directing work; performance evaluations; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.


    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    1. Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
    2. Strong organizational skills with ability to multi-task.
    3. Ability to work effectively in a team environment and use participatory management approach.
    4. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Software and general knowledge/efficiency of computer tools.


    Education & Experience:

    1. Master’s Degree in Law Enforcement/Criminal Justice or related field.
    2. Three (3) years work experience within Law Enforcement, with at least 1 year of experience within the past 5 years.
    3. Previous supervisory/management experience.
    4. Currently certified as an instructor through the Department of Justice (DOJ), or ability to become certified upon hire.
