  • Overview

    Provide strong and visionary leadership for the College’s computing infrastructure, enterprise applications, and learning environments, including developing and deploying cutting-edge IT technologies. The Director will have the vision to anticipate future advances in IT as they relate to higher education, the leadership to help the College stay abreast of IT trends; and the foresight to plan for responses to changing College needs. The Director is responsible for networking and telecommunications, enterprise infrastructure, cybersecurity, enterprise applications, learning technologies and user support. The Director moves the College’s information and technology program forward through innovative and creative instructional and learning applications that cause the College to be in the vanguard of education.

    Accountability

    1. In alignment with expectations, manage Information Technology personnel, contractors, systems, and services in support of the College’s mission.
    2. Lead the development and management of the IT strategic plan in support of the College’s strategic plan.
    3. Lead the overall vendor and contract management processes, including managing and negotiating with hardware, software, and service vendors in order to leverage their compatibilities and provide the highest level of value and stability of IT services to the organization.
    4. Develop, manage and maintain an IT disaster recovery plan and ensure the plan integrates with the business continuity recovery plan.
    5. Establish and manage information security governance framework, risk management processes, and risk response program that are based on best practices and industry standards.
    6. Oversee performance optimization of IT systems including Banner ERP and Blackboard LMS through performance monitoring of vendor services and internal resource demands.
    7. Ensure project portfolio management tools are effectively utilized and monitor project performance for goal achievement. Ensure documentation is fully completed prior to project closure.
    8. Monitor IT performance metrics, and ensure service delivery problems are identified and solved, including immediate escalation of critical IT problems to prevent serious service delivery issues.
    9. Manage the operations and service enhancements of the Information Technology network, data center, and computing services for the enterprise; ensuring systems updates are current or systems are replaced as warranted.
    10. Is punctual and dependable as demonstrated by consistently being at work on time; arriving at meetings and appointments on time; following instructions, responding to management direction; taking responsibility for own actions; keeping commitments; committing to long hours of work when necessary to reach goals; and completing tasks on time or notifying the appropriate person with an alternate plan.

    Responsibility

    1. Support IT Governance and Technology Committee structure for the prioritization and advancement of college technology initiatives. Assist in the identification of alternative courses of action, and assessment of advantages/disadvantages of each.
    2. Lead process to develop, manage and monitor annual IT operating and capital budgets for the organization, demonstrating effective stewardship of organizational resources.
    3. Provide oversight and supervision of Information Technology functional team, including developing and managing appropriate capital and operational budgets, staffing levels, administering annual evaluations, and professional development activities.
    4. Participate in local, regional, and state information technology professional organizations.
    5. Work independently as well as with the various technology team members and business executives to troubleshoot and identify operational constraints and recommend business/technical solutions.
    6. Ensure process documentation and standards are in place to support business/technical solutions.
    7. Develop and deploy metrics to support SLA’s, problem resolutions and executive reporting functions.
    8. Strive to continuously build knowledge and skills via reading publications, participation in professional organizations, and attendance at training and development opportunities; and share expertise with others.

    Qualifications

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    1. Information Technology: comprehensive knowledge of IT systems and infrastructure, background in designing/developing IT systems and planning IT implementation; solid understanding of data analysis, budgeting and business operations, superior analytical and problem-solving capabilities, and a strong strategic and business mindset.
    2. Communication: able to speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; write clearly and informatively adapting writing style as appropriate to the audience; exhibit good listening and comprehension; keep others adequately informed; respond well to questions; participate in meetings, and demonstrate group presentation skills.
    3. Planning/Organizing: ability to prioritize and plan work activities; use time efficiently; plan for additional resources; set goals and objectives; and develop realistic action plans.

    Education & Experience:

    1. Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or related area; Master’s Degree preferred.
    2. Progressively increasing responsibility in IT operations management.
    3. Five (5) years experience managing Information Technology Services; preferably in an educational environment.
    4. Experience with Ellucian Banner, Blackboard, Microsoft Systems, Oracle, and Java preferred.
