  • Overview

    The Medical Assistant Lab and Clinical Specialist will be embedded in Medical Assistant program courses to provide supplementary instruction and assess lab-based skill attainment; facilitate open labs for one-on-one, group tutoring, and skills training in laboratory, clinical, and simulation skills; and coordinate orientation activities for new program students. This position will also recruit potential students from the target population (veterans, TAA-eligible, WIOA-eligible, other adult learners) as appropriate. Position will support learning at both Central and Monroe Campus locations. This position is a grant funded position through June 30, 2019.

     

    Position will be posted until position is filled, we will begin review of applicants on Monday, September 24, 2018.

    Responsibilities

    1. Provide additional oversight of the practicum experience.
    2. Orient new clinical mentors, detailing objectives of the practicum experience.
    3. Conduct new student orientation activities for the MA program.
    4. Advocate for students during their practicum experiences and assist clinical agencies when student issues arise.
    5. Communicate essential information to administrators, faculty, staff, and students.
    6. Meet regularly with MA program director to maintain current documentation of student’s practicum progress.
    7. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with program policy and HIPPA law.
    8. Assist Medical Assistant instructors/students in laboratory activities, medical procedures practice and check-offs, safety procedures, care and use of equipment.
    9. Assist with a program of student evaluation to determine effectiveness of instruction and student achievement.
    10. Assist Instructors in revision of curriculum materials such as simulations.
    11. Maintain equipment, models, and a clean, safe laboratory and prep area and make suggestions on improvement.
    12. Assemble and dismantle materials and equipment for laboratory activities.
    13. Demonstrate ability to use equipment commonly used by Medical Assistants in a variety of healthcare settings.
    14. Meet individually with MA students to complete and monitor their Individual Service Plans, which help them to determine how to meet their goals in the MA program.
    15. Schedule and facilitate open labs for one-on-one and group tutoring and skills practice.
    16. Record use of open labs by students via sign-in sheets.
    17. Meet with individual students who miss class or are at academic risk to ensure successful completion of coursework.
    18. Support the use of computer hardware and software by students in the MA classroom and laboratory.
    19. Help maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment, used for MA laboratory activities.
    20. Practice policies and procedures related to the security of the lab area.
    21. Attend faculty meetings as required by BTC & MA program faculty.
    22. Disseminate grant program information to area veterans programs and programs at the Job Centers including TAA and WIOA to recruit potential students from these programs.      

    Qualifications

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    1. Knowledge of effective student evaluation methods.
    2. Demonstration of teaching, leadership, interpersonal, organizational, research, management and communication skills.
    3. Be able to function with students and instructors with excellent communicative and interpersonal skills.
    4. Demonstrate the ability to work with culturally diverse populations.

     

    Education & Experience:

    1. Certified as a Medical Assistant.
    2. Two (2) years of related occupational experience.
    3. Willingness to comply with annual health screening requirements.
    4. Must remain current with health care provider CPR certification.
    5. Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships within the healthcare community that support clinical sites.
