  • Overview

    Blackhawk Technical College is currently seeking to engage Part-time Instructors for Mechanical Maintenance and Millwright instruction at our Milton Campus, and in educational activities with regional industry.


    Provide mechanical maintenance/millwright instruction on installation, repairs and maintenance of equipment in accordance with diagrams, sketches, and operation manuals and specifications to provide skills to train the next generation of petrochemical, maritime and construction trade workers.


    Technical Instructional Duties:


    1. Maintenance and repair associated with bearings, shafts, chains, valves, pumps, compressors and mechanical drives.
    2. Shaft alignment techniques.
    3. Using rules, calipers, micrometers and other measuring instruments.
    4. Adjusting functional parts of devices and control instruments using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs and straightedges.
    5. Utilizing mills and lathes, drill presses, grinders, etc., for installation and in the repair of machinery and equipment.
    6. Schematics and blueprint interpretation, hand tools, related to equipment and facilities.
    7. Welding skills, use of torch, stick welding, and wire welding.
    8. Industrial safety including lock out tag out, hot works, line breaking and confine space entry.
    9. Moving machinery and equipment, using hoists and rigging, dollies, and rollers.
    10. OSHA safety and 5S for a safe training environment.
    11. Hydraulics and pneumatics including tubing and hose system maintenance


    Position Responsibilities:


    1. Provide lab based instruction individually and as part of a faculty team.
    2. Contribute to improving the effectiveness of instruction and curriculum.
    3. Create a classroom/lab environment that is respectful of all.
    4. Maintain accurate student records and reports.
    5. Identify students needing assistance and refer students to Student Services. Collaborate with Student Services and the Learning Resources staff members to help students adjust to the learning environment.


    Minimum Qualifications:

    1. BA/BS in any field; OR AA/AS in Industrial Maintenance, Facilities Engineering, Millwright
    2. If BA/BS then 2 years or 4,000 hours of millwright/industrial maintenance/facilities engineer field experience; OR if AA/AS then 6 years or 12,000 hours of millwright/industrial maintenance/facilities engineer field experience.
