Overview

Position will serve as the lead administrator of Blackboard, the College’s Learning Management System (LMS), and coordinate related instructional technologies.  Through the effective application of performance-based instructional design theories and application, this position works as a member of the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning to assist faculty in the design of high-quality courses in multiple modalities that support student success and retention.  Position develops and conducts computer software and hardware related training activities on a wide variety of topics and subjects.  Responsibilities include teaching in a variety of formats including face-to-face, online, self-paced, and self-enroll modules in Blackboard and through Video Technology (e.g., Zoom, MS Teams, etc.).  Position will oversee the learning management system support for instructors.

Responsibilities

Manage the Learning Management System (Blackboard) and related instructional technologies.

  1. Serve as a lead for coordinating the CITL team to effectively implement, train, and coordinate technology integrations into the faculty and student academic experience.
  2. Collaborate with College staff on the configuration, maintenance, documentation, and support of Blackboard's LMS solutions within a production environment. 
  3. Manage and communicate any system upgrades, patches, or deployments for the LMS system.
  4. Create and manage LMS standards, policies, and procedures.
  5. Serve as an escalation contact for support issues, including interactions with vendor support services. 
  6. Manage third party technology integrations including maintenance, patching, testing, and troubleshooting issues.
  7. Provide technical and administrative support to campus Faculty in their use of LMS technologies and applications
  8. In conjunction with the College’s Next Generation Learning Committee, recommend changes and enhancements to the college’s learning management system (Blackboard) and instructional technologies.
  9. As part of the Next Generation Learning Committee, provide technical advisement to the College on how to maximize Blackboard utilization to support the College’s goals and initiatives.
  10. Proactively seek out technology advancements that will enhance the learning space for faculty and students.
  11. Collaborate with the IT Help Desk as needed to ensure adequate support for students within the Learning Management System (Blackboard.)
  12. Identify, evaluate, and make recommendations for new and emerging instructional technologies and advise the college on the effectiveness of these technologies.
  13. Remain current with emerging technologies, industry trends, and technological developments, and use the knowledge/information to guide and enhance training activities and course materials.

Professional Development of Faculty

  1. Conduct quality assurance reviews of courses and other instructional materials.
  2. Research, recommend, plan, and assist faculty in implementing learner-centered methodologies for design, delivery, and assessment of learning.
  3. Identify faculty professional development needs and technology training needs.
  4. Coach and guide faculty in the design of instructional content and teaching and learning pedagogy.
  5. Function as grant manager for the Professional Development Grant administered through WTCS, which includes grant development and fund management.
  6. Provide support in a one on one or group training environment for faculty and instructional staff on the college’s instructional/curriculum design system, Worldwide Instructional Design System (WIDS).

Instructional Design

  1. Facilitate a needs assessment to determine existing gaps and training needed to meet student competency outcomes.
  2. In collaboration with program faculty develop performance objectives and guide faculty in the development of learning materials.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  1. An understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion principles as they apply to designing learning experiences for a diverse student body
  2. Project and process management and the ability to handle multiple short- and long-term projects at the same time.
  3. Strong visual, written, and oral interpersonal communication and customer service skills.
  4. Lesson and curriculum planning skills.
  5. Excellent knowledge of learning theories and instructional design models.
  6. Willingness to update and improve own knowledge, skills and attitude pertaining to instructional design, assessment, and course/curriculum development in multiple formats
  7. Ability to analyze problems and situations, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations in support of goals
  8. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Teams
  9. Proficient with current Instructional Technology tools
  10. Proficient with the use of Blackboard Ultra Base Navigation and Ultra course environment

Education & Experience:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Technology, or related field.  (Master’s Degree preferred)
  2. Two (2) years training/teaching experience.
  3. Two (2) years of experience with learning management systems (e.g. Blackboard, Canvas, Brightspace, Moodle)
  4. Experience working with diverse populations.
  5. Experience with quality rubrics, such as Quality Matters or OLC OSCQR.
  6. Knowledge of the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
  7. Learning management system administration and/or support experience.
