Overview

The scorekeeper is responsible for accurately recording game’s score and maintaining official game records. The role requires attention to detail, familiar with basketball and/or volleyball rules, and ability to work under pressure. Role will work closely with officials to ensure the game runs smoothly.

Responsibilities

  1. Serve as point of contact for event related questions.
  2. Maintain accurate record of points and fouls for both teams in real time.
  3. Monitor the official game clock ensuring accuracy, stop clock based on officials’ guidance.
  4. Monitor player substitutions.
  5. Track timeouts used by each team, communicate with officials and coaches regarding timeout allowance and usage.
  6. Work closely with officials to confirm score, fouls, and official aspects of the game.  Report discrepancies to officials for resolution.
  7. Operate the scoreboard to reflect accurate game information, including score, fouls, time remaining, and period.
  8. Ensure final score and statistics are verified by both teams and game officials at the end of the game.  Provide accurate details of game record to Athletic Director.

 

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  1. Strong understanding of basketball and/or volleyball rules and knowledge of the game.
  2. Understanding of score system and game record keeping practices.
  3. Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  4. Good communication skills to coordinate with referees, coaches, players, and other game officials.

 

Education & Experience:

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent level of education.
  2. Previous basketball or volleyball experience either as player, coach, or official.
